Therapist Referral Database FAQ

Thank you for your interest in the Therapy Access Project’s referral database! As TAP continues to grow, we are updating our referral database with clinicians from across the country whose values align with the work that we do. This database is the first place our volunteers look when seeking to match an applicant with a clinician.

What is the Therapy Access Project?

Therapy Access Project (TAP) is a nonprofit that assists members of the LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities in obtaining mental health services. TAP’s mission is to reduce the barriers faced by these communities in finding mental health services that fit both the individual’s financial and therapeutic needs and validate their lived experiences.

What is this database?

This is a private TAP database used to help our access coordinators streamline the process of finding potential therapist matches for the client applicants. The questions on this application are uniquely designed to help screen for therapists who hold the same values that TAP considers most important.

This is not a professional networking or marketing database, and there is no charge or fee to participate. Participating in this database does not guarantee steady referrals, but is more likely to help you find matches with clients that fit with the unique work that you do.

How do I join?

At this time, our referral database is by invitation only. However, you may email info@therapyaccessproject.org if you are interested in applying. Please include in your email a link to your website or other professional profile (e.g. Psychology Today, Inclusive Therapist, Open Path Collective).

What can I expect from this application?

Research shows that one of the best indicators for a successful therapy experience is a positive therapeutic relationship. Therefore, this application asks questions about you both as a professional (i.e. rates, availability, insurance, states in which you practice) as well as an individual (i.e. values, demographic information, skill sets). Therapists report this application can take anywhere between 15-30 minutes to complete. There is not a deadline for this application and you can pause and return to complete it at any point. We recognize that your time is valuable and appreciate the effort it may take to find the time to complete this application. We strongly believe that taking the time to complete this application now will reduce the amount of time spent in the future communicating with volunteers about potential referrals.

How will information be maintained?

TAP uses email as the main means of communication to update therapist information and to communicate potential referrals. If you prefer a different means of communication, please respond to this email to let us know your preferred means and information to reach you. TAP will reach out bi-annually to check for any updates to your practice information such as insurance, availability, fees, or location changes. However, if changes occur that you would like to update more promptly, please email info@therapyaccessproject.org at any time so we can make the appropriate changes.
